Description

Stefano Melacci is an Associate Professor at the University of Siena (Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics) and a member of the Siena Artificial Intelligence Lab. His research focuses on Machine Learning and Neural Networks, specifically exploring Learning Over Time. After earning his PhD from the University of Siena in 2010 and conducting research at Ohio State University, he gained industry experience at CogniTalk and QuestIT, where he developed natural language processing technologies. A co-author of the book Machine Learning: A Constraint-Based Approach, Melacci served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems and currently sits on the board of the National PhD Program in AI for Society. He was the Program Chair for CoLLAs 2024 (Conference on Lifelong Learning Agents), organized the 2025 and 2026 Learning Over Time Spring Schools, and is a co-author of the 'Collectionless AI' perspective. Additionally, he is the co-founder and chairman of the startup UNaIVERSE
