Mario Paiano
Fontys Education
Coordinator and Developer of AI Professionalization in Education
Description
Mario Paiano works at Fontys Education as a coordinator and developer of AI education and professionalization. He is responsible for the design, content, and continuous development of AI-related learning for both internal staff and the broader educational field. His work includes developing an 18-week specialization program and a graduation track focused on AI for teachers, alongside his roles as lecturer and speaker. His focus is on improving how people learn with AI, not by making things faster, but by making learning more meaningful. He examines how AI can support deeper understanding, reflection, and skill development, and where it genuinely adds value in the learning process. At the same time, he explores how AI reshapes the role of the teacher: what should remain human, what can be supported by AI, and how educators can create more space for guidance, coaching, and real interaction. A central theme in his work is shifting students from passive consumption back to active creation. He designs learning experiences where AI functions as a thinking partner rather than a shortcut, pushing students to engage, produce, and think critically. With a background in media design, marketing, and pedagogy, he connects technology to what matters in education: growth, dialogue, and ownership of learning. His work is grounded in practice, focusing on what actually works in real educational contexts.
